A prominent Mortal Kombat 1 dataminer has uncovered evidence to suggest that Ghostface from the Scream franchise is a future DLC character.
Following this week’s release of DLC character Homelander and accompanying patch, dataminer @interloko extracted the sounds from the Mileena announcer and found her saying Ghostface twice in among all the game’s other characters.

— Interloko (@interloko) June 5, 2024 Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm has yet to announce Ghostface as DLC, perhaps unsurprisingly given there is still one character from Kombat Pack 1 left to come out (Takeda Takahashi). Ghostface, then, is assumed to be a part of the inevitable Kombat Pack 2, but the character’s release may be tied up with the ongoing issues surrounding the next movie in the series, Scream 7.
Ghostface’s addition wouldn’t come as much of a surprise, either, as the character was among a number of potential DLC characters found in an early datamine. Then, in September 2023, Mortal Kombat 1 development chief and infamous troll Ed Boon teased fans about potential upcoming DLC characters, tweeting an image, below, showing a number of famous horror villains including Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Leatherface, all of whom have green ticks because they have appeared as a guest character in Mortal Kombat in the past. But it was villains with a green question mark who sparked the most interest. Michael Myers, Pinhead, Chucky, Jigsaw, and Ghostface were all teased in the image.
— Ed Boon (@noobde) September 28, 2023 There’s a lot going on in the world of Mortal Kombat. Players have already discovered a cool The Boys Easter egg with a Homelander Brutality, and Boon has confirmed Mortal Kombat 1 will get story DLC and “a big surprise after that.” Elsewhere, the Mortal Kombat 2 movie is due out October 24, 2025.
