Gears of War: E-Day is one of my most anticipated upcoming games. I adored the series’ original trilogy, but I’m just now getting around to playing its more recent entries after skipping the Xbox One generation. Gears of War 4 and Gears 5 haven’t quite reached the same heights as the series-best Gears of War 2 for me, but roadie running around and chainsawing grubs has a sort of base appeal that hasn’t ceased to be entertaining. Since The Coalition took stewardship of the series’ development, there have been some admirable and interesting new wrinkles, but I’m worried E-Day may be treading well-worn ground that’s keeping Gears of War from significant evolution.
