Paramount and SEGA have expanded their ‘Cinematic World of Sonic the Hedgehog’ with Knuckles, a six-episode event series starring Idris Elba as Sonic’s eponymous rival-turned-ally. IGN’s Knuckles review called it “a fun, chaotic bonus level that nails everything that made the Sonic movies great.”
If you’re wondering what Knuckles is about or how to watch it yourself, take a look at the information below.
All six episodes of Knuckles are now available, exclusively on Paramount+.
Paramount+ costs $6/month or $12/month with Showtime included. There is also a free trial available for new subscribers.
Knuckles, a spinoff of Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog movie series, is an event series set between the events of Sonic 2 and the forthcoming Sonic 3 (in theaters December 20). Here’s the official synopsis:
Knuckles, the latest in the “Cinematic World of Sonic the Hedgehog” from Paramount Pictures and SEGA of America, is a new live-action event series following Knuckles on a hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade Whipple as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.

Knuckles was created by John Whittington and Toby Ascher. It stars the following actors:
- Idris Elba as Knuckles
- Adam Pally as Wade Whipple
- Edi Patterson as Wanda Whipple
- Julian Barratt as Agent Barrett
- Scott Mescudi as Agent Mason
- Ellie Taylor as Agent Wiloughby
- Tika Sumpter as Maddie
- Ben Schwartz as Sonic
- Christopher Lloyd as Pachacamac
Knuckles is labeled an event series, implying a single-season run, though co-creator Toby Ascher told Paste Magazine a continuation is possible. “If something is working really successfully, and we have a really great story to tell, we’re definitely going to expand on it,” he said. “I don’t think there’s any closed doors on future television, future seasons of Knuckles, so everything is wide open. I think it’s important to us that we’re not just making stuff to make stuff.”
Regardless of Knuckles’ TV future, the character will return to the big screen in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, slated to hit theaters on December 20.
