It’s the third time you go through the RPD building in Resident Evil 2 Remake that it really becomes scary. When you first arrive, Marvin is there, Chief Irons, Sherry, Ben – alongside all the monsters, there are some semblances of ‘life.’ But eventually, the whole place becomes empty. It’s the desolation, the silence, the total absence of everything, that gets under your skin. It’s not just frightening. It’s melancholic. Taking cues from Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Cyberpunk 2077, Hollowbody draws on a similar kind of terror, the terror of nothingness. One of the most distinctive and unnerving horror games of 2024, if you haven’t tried Hollowbody yet, it’s just been vastly transformed by a big new update.
