Gearbox’s Borderlands Movie Trailer Promises a Wild Ride With Beloved Character

After years of waiting for even a glimpse of the Borderlands film adaptation, Lionsgate has finally dropped a trailer on fans today, and fans get to see Cate Blanchett’s portrayal of Lilith for the first time (in a moving picture).

After a full week of teasing, the main tease (and official trailer) for the upcoming Gearbox Software Borderlands game franchise film adaptation is finally here! And it has brought all of the attitude of Pandora (not Avatar-related) with it. Fan favourite Vault Hunters Roland, Lilith, and even Tiny Tina and Claptrap have been fully realized in live-action for the first time, and it can be watched just below.

The trailer features instantly recognizable characters and creatures yanked from the Borderlands universe with surprising (yet fitting) portrayals. Jamie Lee Curtis embodies the quirky (and schizophrenic) nature of Patricia Tannis, and Jack Black adds his iconic voice to the comedy relief of the group Claptrap. The trailer features many of the dangers of the Pandora planet, including explosions; everything is trying to kill everything else, and nothing seems to make sense in the overall grand scheme of things.

The trailer showcases well-known characters and creatures from the Borderlands universe, portrayed in a fitting and unexpected manner! Jamie Lee Curtis captures the idiosyncratic and erratic personality of Patricia Tannis, while Jack Black provides comedic relief as the robotic helper Claptrap! The trailer showcases the hazards of Pandora—explosions, constant threats of danger, and a planet that appears to lack a cohesive structure or purpose. It’s a wild and unpredictable world out there, and we can’t wait to see more of it!

All anyone on the planet knows is there is a vault on Pandora that allegedly houses immense treasure, and treasure is good. The trailer caps off with a confrontation between the heroes and a larger Rakk-like creature, culminating with a car exploding out of the back of its neck. If the trailer for Gearbox Software’s first movie adaptation is anything to go by, it’s Borderlands.

— 2K (@2K) February 21, 2024 Fan speculation pointed the film towards an August launch yesterday, February 20, after teasers were unleashed. But they were just that, speculation. The trailer does not give a concrete release date outside of a vague “coming soon.” Fans can give the official Lionsgate X (formerly Twitter) account a follow to get the inside scoop on releases when they happen.
