The super mutants in Fallout 4 used to look a lot more human during development, as the artist who created them shared their early design. A staple of the Fallout franchise, super mutants have played a pivotal role in every single Fallout title often as named characters such as Frank Horrigan, a ruthless agent of the Enclave and the final boss of Fallout 2. Though the super mutants in the Capital Wasteland originate from Vault 87, the super mutants in Fallout 4 are instead a result of the Institute’s research into the Forced Evolutionary virus.
