In retro news, I’m throwing a 33rd birthday lunch for Streets of Rage. The main course: bin-sourced chickens. Some of my fondest gaming memories are of toe-tapping to Yuzo Koshiro’s sick beats as I co-oped through Sega’s worthy Final Fight competitor. After the initial argument over who got to be Axel, you almost always had a jagged alliance with sneaky kidney hits and outright in-fights to the death if your bud taxed too many baseball bats / apples / money sacks. Personally, I saved my aggression for the ‘bad ending’ choice where one may betray their fellow vigilante cop for the crime boss throne instead.
