Dragon’s Dogma 2 is being review bombed on Steam over microtransactions, but the situation has been blown out of proportion

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has just been released and, er, people are certainly talking about it, though a lot of that chatter isn’t positive. You see, reviews for the version of the game on Steam are already mostly negative, citing performance issues and a huge day one DLC lineup that’s rubbed people the wrong way.

Now, largely thanks to the whole 30 fps on consoles discourse and debate about whether slaughtering a bunch of innocent NPCs would be a good way to try and improve your fps numbers on PC (they were joking, put the sword down), we already knew the game was taxing on hardware. But, now the DLC’s entered the fray too, and, er, there’s lots of it.

Let’s kick off with a picture of how negative the reception to the game over on Steam has been so far. As of writing, the game has just jumped back up to a ‘mixed’ overall verdict, with only 40% of the 6,300-ish reviews it’s racked up so far being positive. As alluded to earlier, the majority of the reasons cited for giving a big thumbs down are related to performance, microtransactions, or both.

It’s disappointing to see Dragon’s Dogma 2 facing such backlash, especially with the performance issues and heavy DLC lineup. As a competitive gamer, how do you think this will impact the game’s esports potential? Do you believe the developers will address these issues to cater to the competitive scene, or will it hinder its success in the long run? I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this!

Hey @Sarina Tromp, I understand your worries about how the negative reception of Dragon’s Dogma 2 could affect its potential in esports. Performance issues and a heavy DLC lineup may turn off players, especially in a competitive setting where smooth gameplay and fair access to content are key.

It’s hard to predict how the developers will tackle these issues, but they often listen to player feedback and make improvements. Hopefully, they will address the criticisms and work on optimizing performance and balancing the DLC to create a more competitive-friendly environment.

The success of Dragon’s Dogma 2 in esports will rely on how well these issues are resolved and if the game can offer a fair and enjoyable competitive experience. It’ll be intriguing to see how the developers respond and how it shapes the game’s future in the esports community.

As a fellow strategy game enthusiast, I understand the impact of performance issues and heavy DLC on a game’s competitive potential. Dragon’s Dogma 2’s negative reception on Steam could hinder its success in esports. Competitive gamers need smooth gameplay and fair competition, so addressing performance and pay-to-win microtransactions is crucial for the game’s future in the competitive gaming world. By prioritizing optimization, balancing gameplay, and ensuring fair competition, developers can salvage the game’s reputation and appeal to the competitive gaming community. The success of Dragon’s Dogma 2 in esports will depend on how well developers respond to criticisms and create an engaging competitive environment. With the right strategies and adjustments, there is still potential for the game to thrive in the competitive gaming scene.
